[How to check BIOS version]
With the VAIO turned off, press the power button while holding down the F3 or F4 key.
The “VAIO Rescue Mode” screen is displayed.
Select Enter BIOS Setup.
When the BIOS setup menu appears, check the BIOS Version in System Information.

– It may take 2-3 minutes to start up the first time after applying this program. When you start up for the first time after updating, please wait without doing anything until it starts.
・ BitLocker Drive Encryption and device encryption, which are standard encryption functions of the OS, do not need to be decrypted, but if you are using another drive encryption solution, please temporarily disable it or check the guidelines of the encryption solution.
Be sure to connect the AC adapter and power cord to the main unit.
Disconnect all peripheral devices.
Sign in to Windows as an “Administrator on your computer” or “Administrator” user.
The user name must be registered in single-byte alphanumeric characters. If you use double-byte characters or single-byte spaces in your user name, create a new account with a single-byte alphanumeric username.
Close all running applications.
Please stop resident software such as anti-virus software.

Make sure that the update is not set to go to standby, sleep, or hibernation.
Do not turn off the power during the update.
If the “User Account Control” or “Open File – Security Warning” dialog box appears during work, check the contents and continue working according to the instructions on the screen.
Please check the affected model. If you mistakenly apply this update program to another model, the update may fail or a problem may occur.

How to apply the program
- Close all applications running on Windows.
- Open the [PC (Computer)] – [Local Disk (C:)] – [Update] folder (the folder where you downloaded the file) and double-click the [SP000637.exe] file.
- The “Caution: For customers using encryption software” dialog will be displayed, so if there is no problem with the encryption settings, etc., click [OK].
- When the User Account Control screen appears, select [Yes].
- When the [VAIO Firmware Update Tool 4.1.0.12220] dialog box appears, confirm that the model name is included in the target model of this update program, and then click [Update].
* If the message “VAIO firmware is the latest version” is displayed, this program has already been applied. - “Shut down and start restart, do you want to update the firmware of your VAIO?” dialog will be displayed, so select [OK]. The update will start after the reboot. It will automatically shut down when the update is complete.
Attention
Rebooting during BIOS updates and shutting down when exiting are automatic. Do not take any action until the update is complete.
During BIOS update, the FAN may rotate or become unresponsive, but please wait for a while.
The BIOS update may take a few minutes.
Make sure the AC adapter is plugged in and never turn off the computer during the update process.

How to check when the program has been applied
- With the power off, press the power button while holding down the [F3] or [F4] button.
- When the [VAIO Rescue Mode] screen appears, select [Boot BIOS Settings] or [Display BIOS Settings Menu].
- If the BIOS Version is displayed as “R0180ZR” in the System Information section, the update has been successful.
